Description
Fylaka took another breath from her pipe, feeling the warmth and wetness of the vaporised moisture flowing down into her core, most of it catching on her tracheal membrane as she exhaled, a plume of excess moisture emerging from her nostrils, and between her teeth. It was a sensation she enjoyed immensely, feeling her normally dry mouth and nose soaked with precious water, it wasn't the only reason she enjoyed this pastime however, she liked to let her mind wander even as the sun rose higher and higher in the sky, and the ambient temperature rose along with it. Indeed many of her Darker-Skinned kin had since retreated to the comfort of the shade by now, she understood why, feeling the temperature difference between her pale skin, and her black markings, as they absorbed light and heat more efficiently, even the white stonework of the balcony was becoming hot under her toes and tail, and she reflexedly moved the limb to curl around the base of her chair. The glare had become intense enough for her reflective secondary eyelids to close now, giving her gaze a mirrored appearance, and protecting her sensitive retinas from the harsh photons that bounced off the environment around her.
But yet, still her mind wandered, as she took another puff from her pipe, her mind's eye drifting from the subject of skin colour, to Humans. She had always found it odd, that the Darker ones were from the hotter parts of their planet, while the Paler ones were from the Colder Biomes. She remembered her instructor explaining it to her when she was but a recruit, that Human skin was not as Tough as a Sothians, and it's pigmentation served a different function, radiation protection, rather than thermal regulation, she had been told, but as much as it made sense, it still seemed unusual to her.
Her gaze drifted to the Pipe's reserviour in her left hand, glancing at it's side as she tilted it for a better view, noting the charge and fill indicators. Only 25% remaining already, time had escaped her once again, or perhaps she just wasn't pacing herself, either way, she would soon retire to the shade as well...
