A Commission from

The Hydrus started its service life many decades ago, as a SSTO transport. Since then it has been modified and upgraded continuously, thanks to its highly modular design. The current variants are equally
at home in the vacuum of space, and the atmosphere of a planet. Featuring Solid-state control surfaces, Air Flow control systems and a Reactive Hull coating, the Hydrus continued to serve the Union
Military in as many tasks as there were roles.

Here we see a pair of them cruising through the clouds, this particular variant formed the backbone of the Union's Fighter Force during the War, until it was replaced afterwards by a more capable variant. In the foreground, we see the Reactive coating of the hull switching modes to protect the craft against an imminent attack, while the Airflow control systems along the leading edges of its wings ionise the oncoming air, enabling it to be directed around the craft in the most efficient manner, through the use of magnetic fields.
